Tiburon boy used gun to steal e-bike, police allege
Central Marin police arrested a 15-year-old Tiburon boy on allegations he committed an armed robbery for an electric bicycle in Greenbrae.
The incident happened at about 11 p.m. Friday on the multiuse path along the Corte Madera Creek near Elizabeth Circle, police Cpl. Joel Heaps said. The suspect approached two youths on a bench.
“The suspect produced a handgun with an extended magazine, pointed it at the victims and demanded the keys to one of their electric bicycles,” Heaps said. “Criminal threats to kill the victim were made and the suspect fled westbound on the stolen bicycle.”
The bike had a tracking device because of a prior theft. Police tracked the bike to Larkspur, and an officer spotted the suspect riding it. The suspect fled to Kentfield, where police arrested the rider and recovered the bike but not the weapon, Heaps said.
Police booked the teen into Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and grand theft. Police did not release the suspect’s name because he is younger than 18.
